Den samlede eksaminationstid for opgave 1-5 er 5 timer. Besvarelsen bedømmes som en helhed ud fra de faglige mål for niveauet. Der lægges vægt på beherskelsen af det engelske sprog, forståelse af forlægget og færdighed i skriftlig fremstilling på engelsk.

Det anbefales, at du skriver din besvarelse i skabelonen, som ligger under Toolbox i menuen til venstre. Besvarelsen afleveres i ét dokument med opgaverne i rækkefølgen 1-5.

Opgave 1


I hver af nedenstående sætninger er en grammatisk fejl understreget. Skriv den korrekte sætning, og forklar dine rettelser med udgangspunkt i sætningerne. Brug relevant grammatisk/faglig terminologi. Skriv din forklaring på dansk.

  1. There is a huge different between the understanding of what free speech means nowadays and what it meant just 30 years ago.
  2. The freedom of speech is generally acknowledged as a human right.
  3. We are accustomed to think that an open discussion is good for us.
  4. Open discussions are important despite that they can be uncomfortable.
  5. The expression “brains bereft of critical faculties” is an utter formal way of saying “uncritical”.
  6. Reading novels and short stories teach you that you are not alone in experiencing pain and happiness in life.
  7. Fiction makes us more empathetic to people in real life, which lives we thus understand a lot better.

  2. Forklar for hvert af dine eksempler, hvorfor der er brugt enten adjektiv eller adverbium.
Ruby’s mother, Dalia, used to be a dancer before she had her children. Then she’d trained to be a psycho-
therapist, and you got the feeling she’d disowned her dancing days, looking back on them as delusion and

vanity. Yet still she carried herself in that dancer’s exquisitely conscious way, as if she was held taut by a
thread running up from the crown of her head; she was still hollowly thin, and painted her eyes with black,
upward-swept lines, and wore her hair pulled back austerely from the sculpted bones of her face.




Opgave 4


Nedenstående tekst er et uddrag af en artikel i The Guardian, som primært henvender sig til højtuddannede læsere. Beskriv tekstens stilleje, især med fokus på brugen af hoved- og ledsætninger, substantiver (navneord) og brugen af passiv.

In research by online magazine Spiked, 80% of universities are shown, as a result of their official policies
and actions, to have either restricted or actively censored free speech and expression on campus beyond

the requirements of the law. Spiked’s first ever Free Speech University Rankings – which were overseen
by Professor Dennis Hayes, head of the centre for educational research at Derby University and Dr Joanna
Williams, senior lecturer in higher education at Kent university – show each university administration and

students’ union graded green, amber or red based on an assessment of their policies and actions.
Institutions have been given an overall ranking based on the two combined.

The research paints a picture of students keen to discourage racism but sometimes with almost comic

effect. Birmingham university’s student union has banned “racist” sombreros and native American dress
from being worn on campus. Lancaster union has banned initiation ceremonies, defined in part as
“engaging in public stunts and buffoonery”.

Write an analytical essay (800-1200 words) in which you analyse and interpret Tessa Hadley’s short story “Her Share of Sorrow”.

Part of your essay must focus on the relationship between Ruby and her family and on the role of literature in the story.

In your essay you must include references to the short story. You may use information from the internet in your essay. All sources must be documented.

Write an analytical essay (800-1200 words) in which you analyse Brendan O’Neill’s speech “Freedom of Speech and Right to Offend” and discuss the issue of free speech on university campuses in the UK.

Part of your essay must focus on how O’Neill argues for his points of view and on his intention.

In your essay you must include references to:
  • Brendan O’Neill’s speech from the Oxford Union
  • The interview with the president of National Union of Students Malia Bouattia “Why we need safe spaces on campus”
  • 1-2 other internet sources
